An official copy created by the United States Department of State "containing Deeds and other acts of certain Nations of Indians conveying land to the State of New York." Records various treaties and the names of Indian chiefs who negotiated treaties with the state of New York between 1748 and 1791. 26 pages. Contemporary copies of two letters addressed to the United States Secretary of War from Major R.B. Roberts and Constant Freeman, Fort Fidius, Georgia, on May 10, 1794. The letters describe an unprovoked attack on frontier Indians by Major Adams. Also included is Dr. Frederick Dalcho's report on this attack. Attached is an 1845 copy of a 1792 speech by General Rufus Putnam to the Miami Indians. Manuscript compilation of assorted meetings of the Pennsylvania Governor's Council relating to treaties and meetings with various Indian tribes and their chiefs between 1683 and 1755. 48 leaves. Manuscript petition of Benjamin Franklin "To the Kings Most Excellent Majesty for Council," written in the hand of Timothy Matlack. This is an extension of two petitions filed by Franklin in 1758 and 1759. The petition is a detailed report on previous treaties between American Indian tribes and chiefs and the Penn family and contains detailed information about American Indian tribes and their relationships with Anglo-Americans and Great Britain. 37 pages.
